Check Out Creative Village NYC Meetup

Hey there New Yorkers!

Creative Village NYC was created to connect creative professionals, businesses and organizations with local resources, talent and services. We believe in facilitating interactive events that create a platform to promote, exchange and empower. Members are committed to the success of the each other and meet for the purpose of helping each other develop and prosper. This requires dedicated and loyal members who act as initiators and collaborators for the good of the group members.
WHO SHOULD JOIN?
Creative Village NYC welcomes service providers from all industries, creative industry professionals, interns, entrepreneurs, software developers, investors, non-profit leaders, designers, culinary artists (because who doesn’t love food), social media, advertising, public relations and event specialists, video production and media professionals.
BENEFITS:
  • Promotion: One at a time, each member is given the opportunity to introduce themselves in front of the entire group. (See Meeting Format) Members are encouraged to promote their skills, business, events or opportunities. This helps facilitate interest and awareness for fellow group members.
  • Exchanges: Member introductions will include a brief pitch. Also known as “Ask For It and Offer It” portion of the meeting. The pitch simply answers two question;
  1. What do you hope to obtain from the village members? (Ask For It…)
  2. What do you have to offer the village members? (Offer It…)
  • Empowerment: Be empowered by other member’s creativity, experiences, presentations and connections.

A Creative Way To Promote Yourself

This project pictured above gave me an idea. If you are looking for a new way to promote yourself, try stuffing an envelope with your business card or resume and hanging it from different trees within a busy park such as Central Park in New York City. On the envelope, write attention getting words like “Check this out!” or “Top Secret” or “Looking for Work.” Curious people can’t help but to open the envelopes and read the information inside. You never know who will investigate your envelope. I would love to hear any success stories from this idea.

Preparing for an Interview

Preparing for an interview requires an understanding of your skills and the ability to talk about those skills during an interview. Before you interview, review the questions below, write the answers down and read them. Do the answers make sense? Would you want to hire this person? This kind of exercise will help you be more prepared when you interview.

Here are 10 interview questions to consider before you meet with an employer. Do your best to answer these questions and you will have excellent topics for discussion during your next interview.

1. “So…tell us about yourself?”

2. How would you describe yourself?

3. What led you to choose your field of study?

4. What college subjects did you like best?  Why?

5. What college subjects did you like least?  Why?

6. How has your college experience prepared you for a career?

7. Describe your most rewarding college experience?

8. Do you think that your grades are a good indication of your achievements?

9. How would you describe the ideal job for you following graduation?

10. What do you consider to be your greatest strengths and weaknesses?

Good luck and post to the blog if you have any questions.
